_______________________ Sirena is of Greek origin meaning ‘enchanter’ In Greek Mythology The sirens were nymphs, half-woman, half-bird creatures Luring seamen to their doom by their seductive singing.
Mainly self taught and working from her studio at home, PERUGINA uses watercolour to create these small unique & intimate works depicting delicate female forms.
Always drawn to its beauty and her fascination for the many ways the female form is represented throughout the ages in Art History, she herself has had a need to capture what she feels is the essence of femininity and has done so for many years using different mediums.
Sandro Botticelli certainly created one of the most iconic images of the female nude in the Birth of Venus with all her beautiful hair floating about her body. A painting which inspired many artists to at one point or another attempt to represent his or her reaction to the female form.
She also takes inspiration from the works of famous Australian Artist Norman Lindsay in particular the many etchings he produced in the 1920s, as well as his watercolour works.
Her love of painting these Ladies, although stylised, are a direct expression of what she herself feels is to be a woman and celebrates this femininity with all its voluptuousness in shape and form. Capturing their strengths and vulnerabilities as well as their beauty.
Her gravitation towards the watercolour medium seemed a natural choice facilitating this expression, with its flow, unpredictability, and translucent like qualities all coming together to create a collection she hopes over time will be a
Celebration of the Feminine
Her ongoing series of watercolour ladies are individually named and numbered.
Each are painted on Arches watercolour paper 300 gsm unless otherwise stated.
